Effect of Barbiturate on the Experimental Intracranial Hypertension

Abstract
1. After some drugs were infused into the ear vein at the same time as saline was infused into the epidural balloon, changes of intracranial pressure and blood pressure were investigated in anesthetized rabbits.
2. Pentothal inhibited the intracranial hypertension by infusing saline into the epidural balloon within a few minutes and abolished the pressor response to raised intracranial pressure.
3. Mannitol inhibited the intracranial hypertension but did not affect the pressor response to raised intracranial pressure.
4. Ketamine slightly facilitated the intracranial hypertension and the pressor response to raised intracranial pressure.
5. These results suggest that the inhibition of pentothal on the intracranial hypertension is due to the decrease of cerebral blood flow.
